Our Story
Environmental and social issues have rapidly evolved from global concerns to pressing domestic challenges, directly impacting South Africans in their daily lives. Historically, environmental concerns have been perceived as a “Western issue”—irrelevant to Africa and unlikely to affect the region. However, the increasing frequency of extreme climatological events—such as droughts, tornadoes, mudslides, and flash floods—has starkly demonstrated their local impact.
A critical gap in environmental and social awareness, particularly within rural communities, has further exacerbated these challenges. In response, Lantern Learning has emerged as a grassroots initiative dedicated to educating South Africans about the environmental consequences of their actions. Through accessible language and culturally relevant approaches, the organization empowers communities to understand how their behavior affects the environment, public health, and the broader economy.
By fostering awareness and actionable knowledge, Lantern Learning strives to create a more sustainable and resilient future for South Africa.
